Default Star Trek and Doctor Who: Assimilation v Extermination

I’d like to say that I fully intend to re-explore my Lost fan Fic – The Adventures of Edward Simmons Norton and write my last chapter to my LC6 spin off featuring a long gone former called Malion . However, I just feel a strong compulsion to do some Doctor Who stuff. I will hopefully write a short story featuring a Donna Noble/Doctor reunion – set after the parting of ways. I have had a plan to do that for a while now, so I’ll hopefully get round to doing that also. I’ve decided, that once a week, I’m going to set aside some time for some creative writing. I’ve enjoyed things like the commentary in the venture, the aforementioned fan fic and comedy tale and a Doctor Who short story that’s knocking around here some place.

The main thing is though this story that you’re hopefully about to read. Basically it’s a cross over between Doctor Who and Star Trek: The Next Generation. I just feel I have to write this today and post it here. I don’t know how this is going to pan out – I would like some feedback – both positive and negative. Also, some grammatical and spelling advice would be widely appreciated, because, mines a bit ropey
Now, whilst I have a working knowledge of both series, (Doctor Who in particular) I’d like to point out that my understanding of the techno bable is very basic. So if I do get some things wrong, then don’t slaughter me, just educate me . However, whilst there will be references to stories from both series, they are strictly outside of the continuity of both.
Anyway I give you:

Star Trek and Doctor Who: Assimilation v Extermination

Chapter 1 The coming together

Within a nanosecond, the sub space time shift had been completed. Opening up a gateway, the, cube had re-entered normal space at the same location relative to the planet known as Earth. Planetary scans indicated that species 5618 – Human was no longer inhabiting this planet, and instead devolved primitive life forms roamed its surface. The collective mind, however, cared little for such irrelevant information. All they cared about, was that soon, this planet would belong to them, and apart of the collective. This would prevent the creation of the Federation, and therefore, the Enterprise, and in time, this entire galaxy would be Borg.
************************************************** ********

“Sub space temporal shift completed.”
“Planetary scans confirm absence of humanoid life forms below.”
“Soon our plans will reach fruition.”
“Begin preparations for extermination of the basic lifeforms below.”
“Soon this Earth will be the New Skaro. All shall hail the Daleks!”
There was much chatter amongst the 150,000 Daleks, many shouting various commands and instructions. If they hadn’t had all emotions removed, then one would have described the Dalek tone as one of excitement. All were on the mega ship, a large sourcer type structure, one of the biggest ever constructed by the Dalek Empire. Escaping from the destruction of the Dalek fleet in the year 200100, the Daleks, quickly made plans. Hoping to conquer Earth before humanity existed, the Daleks realised they could lay a trap for their great enemy – The Doctor.

************************************************** *******

The drone became aware of something. The rest of them felt it to, such was the power of the one mind. Technology. Not of this Earth – their calculations had been perfect. They increased the scans. New technology, unique, and powerful, but not superior to their own. Another species invading Earth. A technology that had to be assimilated, and combined to that of the collective. This would make them more powerful. And not only technology, but a whole new species, again unique, and a worthwhile addition. They moved the ship around to the other side of the planet to investigate.

************************************************** ******************

“Halt! Long range scans confirm the presence of another species preparing to invade Earth.”
“Bring the Dalek ship around to intercept.”
The Daleks worked to pilot their vessel around to meet this species.
“Open up a visual link.”
“Visual link opened.”
The visual showed the Daleks a cubiod shaped object, a ship in similar size to their own, a crude cybernetic construction.
“Life signs detect an bipedal cyber-organic lifeform, with numbers similar to our own. However, their technology is inferior.”
“Communications have been dected”
“Lower the communication barrier”
The Dalek in question flicked a switch. A voice rang out.
“This is the Borg. You shall be assimilated, resistance is futile.”

***********************************************

The collective was already preparing battle stations. The reply was irrelevant. However, they soon heard the voice, of which there was many, ringing through their heads, disrupting their patterns temporarly, before quickly adapting. All the voices clearly said the same thing;

“Exterminate.”

Perhaps the most epic thing ever. Good luck trying to give character to two races made of no individuals though.

I have something you may find useful for Techno-Babble; the Technobabble Table from the Serenity RPG:

You can find something for dice here
d6= 6 sided dice
D8= 8 sides
etc

Thanks Lupin

There are differences though, Im not going to focus on any particular Dalek or Borg, just keep them very much similar within the races, and try and make sure its obvious which ones which . Generally the Daleks will have the dialouge and the Borg the discription. Thankfully, the next chapter or two is going to be The Doctor on the Enterprise

And thanks for the techno babble stuff

Chapter 2 New Life forms and New Civilisations, in relative dimensions

Captains Log: Star Date: 47963.8. The Borg have launched a devastating attack on Earth that destroyed many Federation ships. We ourselves sustained massive damage to our warp drive that has left us floating in space, with only life support functioning at full capacity. However, instead of commencing with the assimilation of Earth, the Borg ship vanished into what appeared to be a sub space time shift. The Earth, mysteriously now shows no life signs at all, appearing to be in a state of flux. It seems that only we survived because of our proximity to the Borg cube at the time of the shift. It will take days, months even, before we are able to have the ship ready to pursue the Borg ship, by which time, none of us know what shape the Earth will be in...

Jean Luc ended the log, and leant back in his chair in the captains ready room. In his long career as a Captain of the Star Fleets flagship, the USS Enterprise, he had endured many trials and tribulations. Many of the most memorable ones involved the Borg in some way. Indeed, he had many personal issues with the Borg, going all the way back to the horror of Worf 359. However, not even that ‘battle’ compared to this latest chapter. All he could summarise was that the Borg were trying to change the history of Earth somehow. But yet, there must have been something stopping them. But what? And how? But, more importantly, when?

“Captain to Bridge.” The voice of his first officer, Will Riker, came through on the bridge. Picard sighed.

“Now what?” he thought.

“You might want to take a look at this.”

“On my way number one.”

Upon the Bridge, there was a hub of activity, with some of the damaged consoles being repaired. Will strode up to Jean Luc. “Commander Data found something on the scanners”. Picard detected a sense of puzzlement on his voice. Picard nodded towards the android.

“The short range scanners have picked up a ship Sir. It seems to have dropped out of some sort of special vortex. It is unlike any ship that we have encountered before. There is one life form, humanoid. The ship is made out an unknown quantity, and, according to the scans at least sir it is quite substantial in size.”

Jean Luc nodded.

“On screen.”

The android duly obliged.

Picard looked at the screen, and then back at Data.

“Data, that ‘ship’ can only be at most, one meter by one meter by two, and appears to be made out of wood.”

“I assure you sir, the scans are correct.”

“I told you needed to take a look at this Sir” said Will, quietly. Jean Luc seemed unmoved.

“Data, have you checked the scanners, to see if their parameters to length and depth are functioning normally?”

“Yes Sir”.

The Captain strode over to the console, and read the computers numbers for himself, and then looked back at the object.

“Commander Data, I want you and Geordie to run a complete diagnostic of the ships scanners, making sure you haven’t missed anything in your repairs.” Data nodded and left the bridge, with a yellow shirted ensign taking his place at the console.

The Captain turned to his ships tactical officer, the Klingon known as Worf. Until now, he had remained silent, scanning for weapons and levels of shielding. However, the tactical scanning systems were still not functioning fully and he was having little success.

“Lieutenant, Worf try and establish contact with this ship, on all hailing frequencies.”

“Aye sir.” Worf barked, glad to something not as tedious and as frustrating as a ship scan, and, immediately got to work.

************************************************** *****

The Doctor brought the TARDIS out of the time vortex. Something wasn’t right. He had detected two subspace time shifts within a couple of seconds from each other. One was untraceable. The other, had its origins in this time frame, the 24th century. A time where space exploration was really beginning to take hold. The era of Klingons and Romulans, and the United Federation of Planets, which, in time, would be re-titled the first great and bountiful human empire. Not yet though. For now, it was a trading bloc of planets. A great civilisation. Except.

“Where the hell is everybody?” He wondered, out loud. Even though he was currently alone, having left Martha Jones back on Earth, he still liked to talk out loud to somebody. He racked his brains “Well I guess the holidays are cheap at this time of year but still...” but he knew in his two hearts, something was wrong. Something must have happened. He opened the TARDIS door and looked out at the Earth. It seemed to be flickering, like a television set that wasn’t tuned in properly.

“It’s in a state of variant special fluximouis, but how?” He slammed the door shut. He checked his television screen.

“One ship, Federation. That’s odd, how is that thing still around? Must have been caught in the shockwave of whatever caused this.”
Suddenly, his screen started to buzz into life, trying to change the picture.

“Hello, a hailing frequency, from that star ship no doubt, if I just twist this here... oooh yes.”

On the screen, The Doctor saw the ships bridge. It appeared the was some maintence work being done, with various technicians hard at work, while the rest of the bridge crew worked around them. A bald man in the middle of the room spoke.

“Hello this is Captain Jean Luc Picard of the Federation Starship Enterprise.”

“’Ello Captain, I’m the Doctor, of the TARDIS.”

Jean Luc looked to his first officer, and then turned back to face the screen.
“A Doctor of what?”

“Of everything.”

“Of everything?”

“Yeah, well, more or less.”

“And what your real name?”

“Just the Doctor.”

Jean Luc raised his eyebrows. “Doctor Who?”

“Just simply The Doctor, that’ll do fine.”

“Right. Erm Doctor, how did you get into this part of space?”

“With this, my TARDIS,” The Doctor grinned.

“Where are you from?”

“Look, erm Captain, I don’t meant to sound rude, but can we do this on board your ship? From what I can tell, you are in a bit of a pickle, and the planet below us isn’t too healthy either.”
Jean Luc turned to Will.
“Well?”

“Well do we really have any other options? He seems whilling to help us.”

“Hello, I can still hear you!” The Doctor exclaimed, waving his arms about, and tapping on the screen.

“Damn humans and their decision making processes.”

Jean Luc turned back the screen.

“Right, Doctor, we’ll send you instructions on where to park your ship. We’ll open the Door for you. Picard out.”

The view screen went blank. The Doctor leant back in his chair, and waited for the up load of information. He decided not to inform the Captain the TARDIS ship could materialise anywhere on his craft with no way of stopping him. The computerised instructions came through on his screen.

“Right then, alons-sey!” He shouted. He flicked a few switches, pulled a few levers and made his way to the Enterprise.

************************************************** *************************

The Captain sat back in his chair. He turned to Will.

“Number one, take Mr Worf Deanna, and a security team to greet The Doctor. Inform me when he arrives and escort him to my ready room. Also take a look around his ship. I’m not sure, but it seemed bigger on the inside somehow.”

Authors note: I decided to rename this chapter, because it doesn't do what I want it to do in this story. This bit was meant to take a bit shorter than I intended, hence the change in chapter title.

Chapter 3: Introductions

The Doctor parked the TARDIS in the shuttle bay. He made sure that the TARDIS was anchored in place in relation to the ship. He didn’t want the ship suddenly going into warp and not taking the TARDIS with it.

He looked around at his magnificent machine. Well the word machine didn’t do it justice, it being a living organism and everything. The yellowish coral interior, dooming outwards. Bigger on the inside didn’t do it justice somehow – there were rooms that not even he had gotten round to exploring yet!

His thoughts were interrupted by a loud knock at the door.

“Darn humans,” he thought “Always in a rush when it suits them.”
He gingerly opened the ‘wooden’ door, and peeked outside, before revealing himself fully. Facing him were five people. One red shirted, bearded man, human one blue shirted female, half human, half Betazed. Just behind them, stood, a yellow shirted Klingon, and flanking him, but just to the behind, were a couple of anonymous looking yellow shirted humans. No doubt, The Doctor thought, that these two were certainly wearing a red under shirt.

“Hello Doctor, my name is Commander William Riker,” said the bearded red shirted man.

“Howdy” the Doctor said, grinning inanely in opposition to the Commander’s serious look. He offered a hand to shake.

“Or would you prefer a salute Commander? I don’t like salutes myself, but you might be the sort of bloke that does. And how to salute, flat hand, right hand, left hand, fisted hand, ohh sooo many ways!”

“A handshake would do fine.” Will said, anxious to get the introductions over and done with. The two men shook hands. Will continued. “This is counsellor Deanna Tori, and Lieutenant Worf.”

The Doctor shook their hands in turn. “Oooh a counsellor, well I hope you’re better than the last one I had. Sigmund Freud, nice guy, but too obsessed with sex if you ask me. I told him, all I have is a superiority complex, and all he wanted to talk about was my mother! Not to mention, how expensive he was!”

Deanna let out a nervous laugh.

“Well I hope I’ll be less of an expense for you, Doctor. However, I need to know, what is your real name?”

“The Doctor.”

“No, the name that you are hiding.”

There was an awkward silence. Instead of answering the question, The Doctor simply ignored it and moved on.

“And who are these gentlemen?” The Doctor nodded to the two yellow shirted gentlemen, either side of Worf.

“These are my security team” The Klingon barked. “We are here to take a look around and examine your vessel.”

The Doctor gave a slight smirk. “OK, sure, have a look around.” He nonchalantly sung the TARDIS door open, and stepped aside.

Will and Deanna, also curious to have a look, couldn’t believe their eyes. The space within this tiny blue box was vast. There was a silver control panel, almost ancient looking in design, and yet, somehow, advanced. Out of this panel, came a bluely cylinder, stretching right up to the roof.

“Annnnd that’s enough of a look around!” Just as Worf got to the doorway, The Doctor whipped out his sonic screwdriver, pressed a button, and slammed the door into the Klingons face.

“Grr” Worf grumbled as he staggered backwards. “Doctor, please open this door so that we can conduct a search of this vessel.”

“Erm maybe later. I can assure you, what you have seen is pretty much it really.”

“We need to make sure that there are no dangerous weapons on board.”

“I carry no weapons.”

“With the greatest respect, how can we trust that you aren’t?”

“The same way I trust that you won’t use those phasers that all of you carry round with you” The Doctor raised an eyebrow and gave a disapproving look.

“What about that device you closed the door with?” Will asked. He wasn’t going to take a lesson on morals from someone they had just met.

“Oh this, this is just a sonic screwdriver. Doesn’t kill, doesn’t wound, doesn’t maim. But it is very good at closing doors!” The Doctor grinned.

“Sir, can we make our way into the vessel by force?” The Klingon asked, impatient to get on with the task at hand.

“Negative.” Will replied. We can do it at a later time if need be.

“You wouldn’t be able to get in anyway” The Doctor smiled. “Honestly, you’d be wasting your time”.

“I do not believe so” Worf grunted. He had only known The Doctor for five minutes, but already, he disliked him.

Deanna, who for most of this had been a silent observer, decided to interject. “I think we can take The Doctors word. We should trust him, he is a Doctor.” She said, with a flirtatious wink.

The Doctor smiled.

“Right, then Deanna, I believe I have business with the Captain, if you would care to escort me”

“Certainly.”

“Deanna, perhaps it would be wise for me to come with you” Worf said.

“And me to make the formal introductions” Will added.

Deanna gave a playful look to both men.

“I’m sure I can manage.”

“If you say so Deanna.” Will rolled his eyes. “In the meantime, I’ll tell Data and Geordie to cease with the diagnostic of the ships scanners. Worf, make the arrangements to guard the Doctors ship,-“

“Please, call her the TARDIS”

“Ok, then Tardis.”

“No TARDIS.”

“That’s what I said Doctor.”

“No, you said Tardis. It’s TARDIS. It’s an acronym. For Time And Relative Dimension In Space” The Doctor replied.

Will sighed. “Ok then make the arrangements to guard The Doctors TARDIS. And once you’ve done that, return to the bridge.”

“Aye sir.”

“And if anyone needs me, I’ll be in my quarters.”

Oh my good god that is brilliant! Everything is so believable despite being absolutely ridiculous!

ESN! You are amazing!

Ok; there were three things I didn't really like. Number one is Deanna being a flirt. She's never less than professional. Number two is Captain Picard being humbled in the following line:

“Right. Erm Doctor, how did you get into this part of space?”

Number three is that you haven't written more!

I got hopeful that they'd be another chapter, but it's just Indie not getting the joke

I second the sentiments expressed in the last line. Get writing esn!

Thanks for the Feedback. I'll take your comments on board.

I was sort of counting on Deanna being the Doctors companion for this but after reading this I'll need a re-think.

That said, the simple explanation is that she can sense that he's soo awesome, so brilliant, she can't help flirting with him a bit.

Likewise with the second comment. Although it seems to me that Picard would ask that question seeing as the Borg have seemingly taken out the whole of starfleet Earth and left just the Enterprise as the sole survivours.

Chapter 4: Mutual understanding

The Doctor sensed that he was being taken the scenic route to the Captains ready room. Not that he minded of course. He rather enjoyed the company that Counsellor Deanna Troi was providing him, on what he thought was an unofficial guided tour. He noted her intelligent, yet calming demeanour, and found her to be quite attractive as well.
Deanna, for her part, found The Doctor to be quite charming, yet full of contradictions. He had a childlike level of excitement at every detail of the ship, but had the knowledge and the look of a man much older than he appeared. Still, she did fancy him a little bit. Not that her current boyfriend – Lieutenant Worf - or her ex – Commander Riker – would approve. “Control yourself Denna!” She internally scolded herself.

Eventually, after much walking, they entered the bridge. Through which, they were to get to the Captains Ready room. The Doctor took a while to look at the scene. A circular room, with yellowish control panels around the outside, three chairs in the middle. Just behind the chairs was another panel, where Lieutenant Worf – who had taken the direct route to the Bridge now stood.

“The Captain is waiting for you Doctor” he spoke gruffly. The Doctor was too busy admiring the Bridge to listen.

“Touch screen, software integrated into a voice control system, very nice. A bit clinical mind you, I like the idea of having more switches and levers, just to really feel a part of the machine. This feels a bit detached. But it looks very nice. ”

“The Captain is waiting” Worf barked. He wasn’t used to being ignored.
“Yes of course, sorry big man.” The Doctor grinned.

Deanna gave Worf a calming glance. Worf muttered some swear words in Klingon and got back to his work.

Deanna led The Doctor to the entrance of the Captains ready room. She pressed a button on the side panel, which then admitted a computerised bleep.

“Come” Picards voice boomed through the doors.
The doors separated to allow The Doctor and Deanna to enter.
“The Doctor is here to see you Sir” Deanna said. “This man must have chosen his name to give us awful sounding sentences” she thought.
“Thank you Counsellor, you may leave us now.” Jean-Luc said.
“Nice meeting you Deanna” The Doctor said, with a grin.
“Likewise” Deanna gave off a smile, trying to re-gain her lost professionalism.

The Doctor watched her leave, and then looked around the Ready Room. Very different to the previous ready rooms he had been in, but yet very similar. Models of ships adorned the walls, with various alien artefacts scattered around the room. However he soon felt aware of a pair of eyes staring right at him.

“Doctor”
The Doctor broke out of his daydream.
“Yes ‘ello Captain, sorry just admiring your collection very impressive it has to be said. Do you want a salute? Nah I suppose you’re too self assure of yourself to want a salute, I mean salutes are really for people who aren’t self confident enough in their authority. Although having said that, in some species, which you wouldn’t have encountered, salutes are the only form of comunica- ”

“Doctor!” Jean-Luc raised his voice slightly.
The Doctor composed himself. “Yes, erm right. Business.”
“Indeed.” Picard strode to the replicator. “Tea. Earl Grey. Black.” To which the replicator gave him what he wanted to the letter. The Doctor grinned as Jean-Luc sat back down at his desk.

“So can you tell me what you are doing here, with a ship that is seemingly bigger on the inside than on the outside? More precisely, what are you doing here right after a Borg attack that has left the Earth in stasis?”
“Just a traveller passing through really. Bit like you in many regards, although I travel through time as well as space. Found a couple of sub-space time shifts, with their origins in this timeframe, so I thought I’d take a look. My question to you is, how did you survive a Borg attack on Earth? Get caught in the shockwave?”
“I am asking the questions at the moment Doctor.” Picard’s fowled brow grew deeper. “But for the record, that is an correct assumption. Now you mention time travel, so this must mean you are a part of a species from the future? ”
“A time lord, yes.”
“Of course! I remember Q mentioning your people. He said you were a pompous, and arrogant but a none the less a brilliant race, that is virtually instinct. Through a-”
“You’ve met Q! I haven’t seen him in decades!” The Doctor grinned and sat on Picard’s desk, much to the annoyance and displeasure of the Captain. “We used to play strip poker together every second Wednesday! The amount of times I’d be down to my underpants and a shoe, and he would still be fully clothed! Then I’d beat him of course.”
Under normal circumstances Jean-Luc would have felt compelled to tell The Doctor off for interrupting him.
“You said you could help us. That I am sure of. But what I need to know is how can I trust you?”
“Oh come on Captain, you knew you could trust me the moment we first spoke to one another!” The Doctor leapt off the desk, and started strolling towards the replicator. “Heck, if you didn’t trust me, I wouldn’t be in this room with you ordering Jelly Babies, several.” At which point a whole cascade of Jelly Babies started pouring out of the replicator, a seemingly endless supply. Within a couple of moments, a small pile had appeared on the replicator, and dozens more were piling up all over the floor.

Nonchalantly, the Doctor grabbed a handful and tossed one into his mouth. Picard, for once, was speechless at the audacity of this Doctor.
“Captain Jean-Luc Picard, any ship that has supplies Jelly Babies is worth helping,” The Doctor swung over to Piccard’s side of the desk. Grinning, he offered the stunned captain a jelly baby.

Jean-Luc quickly regained his composure. He wasn’t used to being outshone in his own ship, let alone his own ready room.
“So we have a mutual understanding then?”
“Quite, I’ll help with the ships repairs by integrating some of the TARDIS systems to promote a quicker recovery of the ships main function, and furthermore use the combined network to track down the Borg cube.” The Doctor gave off another trademark grin.

“Well, that is a splendid idea,” Picard gave off a hint of a smile “...but the answer I was looking for was that you’d help out in Engineering right after you’d cleaned up that mess you’d left over there” Picard gestured to the ever growing pile of Jelly Babies, that had shown no signs of stopping.
“Erm, well right.”
“Commander La Forge will see you shortly, Doctor.”

Oddly enough, I can imagine this happening.

(Yes I do apperciate that I'm making up some of the technical stuff as I go along and that I don't really know what I'm talking about. But this is my story and I can make up whatever the heck I want. As long as the characters are ok and it all checks out, then I'm happy. If not, then I want that knowing so I can make the nesscary changes.)

Chapter 5: Engineering

“Really Doctor, there’s really nothing for you to do around here really, I’m sure you’d be much happier calibrating your own ships systems so that the cross integration goes more smoothly. Commander Data and I can handle the repairs.”Lieutenant Commander Geordie La Forge was feeling flustered. He wasn’t happy with outsiders fiddling around with his Engineering operations at the best of times. Least of all the Captain thrusting upon him this stranger.

“Ah the TARDIS doesn’t need calibrating; it knows what to do all by itself. Well most of the time” The Doctor was strolling around the Engineering section like he owned the place. This was not an intention of his, just his manner. Not that either Geordie or Data quite understood that.
“Geordie, I do believe from my conversation with Counsellor Troi that the Doctor is familiar with technology far more advanced. However, from the use his of ‘most of the time’ phrase indicates that there are occasions where calibration is necessary. And I would guess, with what is needed to be achieved can’t be possible without some calibration from your TARDIS.”
The Doctor stopped in his tracks and turned towards the pair, who had fallen several paces behind.

“Well ok, maybe a little calibration is required. But it’s just a case switching a wire here, reversing the polarity there erm...” The Doctor sensed that the neither the human nor the android were convinced by this at all, since they, especially the Android, were much smarter than the usual Operations types he came across. “... I’ll explain it later. Maybe in the next hypothetical chapter. Or two. Or off screen somewhere. And speaking of off screen...” The Doctor reached over and took Geordies VISOR.

“Hey I need that! What are you doing?” Geordie exclaimed.
The Doctor examined the device. Then took out his Sonic screwdriver, and twirled the button a couple of times, and then gave the device back to the Chief Engineer.
“What was that?” Geordie asked, flabbergasted at The Doctors brashness, though secretly impressed that his visual acuity had significantly improved beyond what he thought was technologically posible.
“Just a minor modification. You’ll thank me for it later.”

The Doctor then promptly turned, bent down and ripped open the nearest panel. He then looked around the set of wiring.
“Erm Doctor, that is a very minor work station, that’s rarely in use and not even damaged...” Geordie sighed. This could take a lot longer than the three hours he had anticipated. “And we usually use these” he attempted to thrust a tri coder into the Doctors hands. The Doctor simply and calmly pushed the tri coder away. He then gave a big sniff, licked his finger and moved it about a bit. He then put his ear against a few areas of the machine, and then for his coup de gratis licked round the rim where the panel had been.
“Ah thought so. What you’ve got Geordie, Geordie La Forge, is a radon leak in the sixth upper quartile sub section three, which is why you are having difficulties with about three, maybe four warp engine conduits, which incidentally is also feed backing across the power couplings for both warp and impulse drive engines. ”
“How the heck did you work that out?” Geordie asked, stunned.
“Oh I got a good nose for this sort of thing.” The Doctor grinned, tapping his nose.
“It took us three hours to work that out!”
“Three hours, twenty minutes and five seconds to be precise” said Data.
“Just so far, for some reason, we’ve been struggling to repair it, haven’t been able to work out what else to do.”
“That’s because, you also have a simultaneous burst plasma relay in the twelfth lower quartile sub section 42 point 23, alongside computer sub command that needs to be re-written. Or simply turned on and off again. ”
“Doctor, that’s impossible, we’ve already checked for all of that.”
“Well, its small, your jiggery pokey scanners wouldn’t pick it up. But it’s defiantly there, I can taste it.” The Doctor ran his tongue around the panel again.

“Yep defiantly. I have a very talented palate me. This tastes a bit like an acid chicken, with a bit too much pepper. Right then, shouldn’t take too long to repair. We could be underway in, I dunno twenty minutes.”
“Doctor, to repair the things you said takes at least half a day.”
“Six hours, eleven minutes, fifteen seconds.”
“Not to mention, about twenty engineers.”
“Nah, they can take the rest of the day off. Trust me it’ll be done in a jiffy. All I need is someone to hold my jacket.” The Doctor slipped off his jacket and threw it into Data’s arms.

“Beginning to get a bit warm in here, almost muggy. Right then, alons-y!”
