Pearls are circular.

So maybe its just the circle on the ground that gave the Pearl its name. And thats a clue to the fact that the Pearl is in fact not the "?".

Oh, and Jin already told us that there are no Oysters.

It is a question mark, the circle is the top of it but it goes down to the plane and the little dot thing in the question mark is where it opens and its underneath the plane, i don't see how people can think that it isn't the question mark after they followed the map to that point and the episode was called "?"

If the episode wasn't called '?' and Locke and Eko weren't looking for a '?' and had seen that picture, they would think;

"How odd, a circle"

But because they're looking for something, they eventually found it. Like if you look hard enough at clouds you can see one of President Bush.

Either way, I don't think they've found the 'question mark'. As there is a hatch with 'Pearl?' on he blast doors map..

Hehe sorry Kor. It is a good point about the 'shininess' of the cameras, could link with it. Can see no more plausible explanations!

I reckon things will become more clear as the episodes progress though.

As we (or you) have noticed about the credibitlity of the Swan hatch explanation though, I think things will become clearer about the name of the Pearl hatch soon it later episodes, even if it is obscure references to it..

Haha, well subconciously i probably made the connection to the camara lenses from you mentioning that Pearls are 'shiney' so we can both take credit for it..and if were badly wrong then at least i have someone to crash and burn with!

Lol good point, I think that's lucky as someone (Indie88?) made a good point about it possibly being called the Pearl due to there being a hidden valuable secret inside the 'rough exterior' of the monitor room..

Look at the picture, take your time.

You will see that the circle is actually closed, rather than being covered in grass between 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock as a proper ? would be.

The foot of the ? (if you know what I mean) is formed by the ash from the fire that Eko set to the plane.

And the dot is too far away from the circle to be a proper question mark.

And all the other points that need to be made have already been made by E PLURIBUS UNUM (here's an old Peseta coin by the way for your collection).

I'd like to know exactly what they said. You can clearly see that it's a full circle. Sure one can make a '?' out of it. But you can also make the french 'C' out of it as well

If you look really really close then it probably is a full circle but from the top of the cliff where it's ment to be seen from it looks like a question mark. This is what i found, interview with one of the writers.

Will the episode titled "?" explain what the... I think you know where I'm going with this....

If that wasn't the question mark we've learned nothing about it. not 100% confirmation but as good as.

That's not a confirmation. He's basically saying it's a good suggestion

It's one of those occasions when they 'neither deny nor confirm' something

Oh don't get me wrong. The reason it was put their was to give the onlookers the impression it was a '?' but I don't think they've found the 'actual' ?

The blast door map mentions 'the pearl' just to the right of 'the swan' as well...

I don't think that the people that drew the map got inside the pearl, i reckon they just saw the ? from the cliff and didn't know what it was. They must have known about the island though and maybe heard about the pearl and so marked it on at the side, thats my theory on this anyway.
