I'm pretty sure that blinding light is the sunlight simulator coming through the mirrors. Probably redirected so Desmond can see out when it's dark.

Ah yes. But what would be the use of brighteneing outside anyway? there must be mirrors outside in the jungle too, so he can see out...although, how hidden must they be?! unless they're up in a tree somewhere...

All the evidence would point to perhaps something before the button. Something else that was possibly being tested. Maybe from 1970-1980[?](whenever the incident was) They were still doing tests with the electro-magnet and then when the 'incident' weather bad or breakthrough - happened, they decided to put in the computer to save the world/run psychological tests.
[Which could be when they put the cameras in]

THe washi-machine must be really important. And the person who noticed it is well... Dead.
Maybe, they decided to monitor people after the incedent happened, to make sure it wouldn't happen again? And the sunlight thing I don't think is that important, but it must take a lot of power right? |

For a start, its maintenance free. Noone is changing gas bottles, filling oil tanks, carrying coal to a furnace. There are no wind mills, solar panels, and for sure there isn't a river running through the hatch to drive some turbines. Is nuclear the only option? Was the incident a Tchernobyl style disaster, or rather did it come close to that? Was the sickness radiation poisoning? Where does the magnetism fit into this? Or is just that this show is written by gas guzzling americans who haven't figured out that its a problem?

That could be where the turbines/power supply is. Maybe the producers will make that bit always unaccessible as they forgot to add a power source when they made the first 'hatch episode'!

If so, why don't they just follow it? It has to go somewhere.. Well, the ones that want to leave anyway!

Did he find where it went into? I'm sure he was following it and came across Dani's trap [the wire] inspected the wire -> got caught..
Unless he saw that it went into the ground before he got caught, but I can't remember seeing that

Yeah thats what i was trying to remember. Hmm..i think he saw it go into the ground and then just after that he got caught in Rousseau's trap? Though i really have to watch that again as my memory is a bit hazy when it comes to 'Solitary'.

Yes me too KoR
There is a positive to this seasons finale over last seasons - twice as many episodes to watch inbetween!!

What did the cable look like? Was it a metal wire, or insulated? Did it seem thick enough to carry two separate strands? Reason I'm asking is that unless theres two thick strands, you can't actually run electricity down it I think. Whereas you would only need two thin wires for communications. And if its s single wire its useless for sending anything electrical, power or signal.
