So the centeral control hatch has been revealed then and the whole button pressing thing is a sham. And Locke was heading for the right place after all when he went for the plane with Boone, just kinda miss read the signals.
Rather odd that there are other cameras in this pearl hatch. And that this is five of 6 not 1 or 6 of six has you would expect. double bluff maybe? Wonder if they will tell the rest of them when they get back? shows how much faith Locke has lost in finding his destiny |

When Eko got to the top of the cliff - he looked down and saw...... was it a ? in the grass? I thought at first it was just a circle, but I need to see it again as it would make more sense if it was a ?
I thought that too esn - why number 5? I would have thought that was number 6 (there is no 6 on the map tho... ) and how come there were tv screens for all the other hatches (presumably) but none of them worked except the swan one? maybe they alternated the hatch screens when new people came to work there? Or maybe they are there as a tease - to see if the workers would try and fix the other screens and watch the other hatches? I dunno!

I think it was just a ? drawn in the grass, and the plane was over the dot
![]() I think the pearl hatch is also an experiment, it just didnt add up. Station 5 of 6? Surely this would be a seperate station to the experimental ones or at least be number 6? I think the fact that Dr Marvin Candle also gave himself a totally differant name in the orientation video shows that none of the people in the seperate hatches communicate with each other. "They believe what they are doing is of the upmost importance". To me this does not say that it isnt important, but if the people in the Pearl dont know what exactly the tasks entail how could they keep accurate logs? It just doesnt make sense

I want to know why Eko believes that pushing the button is valuable in itself - is he actually saying that hollow faith, when you know full well there's nothing behind it, is worth something? Is he going to push the button himself now in the belief that it serves no purpose in itself, but perhaps it'll prove character building for him or will tell those monitoring him (if they still are) that he's willing to do something on faith alone even when that faith should have been all but shattered? Showing them that even logical disproving won't break his faith? Or does he simply disbelieve the video?

However, there must be more to the Swan than Candle / Wickmund (what are the odds he'll be calling himself Jeremy Waxman in the next vid?) would apparently like his lowly personnel to believe. The air-drop indicates that someone desperately wants to keep the Swan operating, in spite of the decayed condition of the "experiment" and the total lack of any observers in the Pearl. That would be taking mere scientific curiousity to ludicrous proportion (so we can safely assume a hidden agenda).

Incidentally, can anyone remember which flashback characters were smokers? I'm sure that cigarette wasn't left there for nothing...

So, do you reckon the Otthers want the Losties to find these hatches, or is it the island? The dreams helped Mr Clean find the Swan, and now Eko's dreams find the Pearl.
What's the force behind all this? Maybe the '?' is central on the map, although not particularly more n.b. Liam was a smoker. |

Just a theory... I know many don't approve of the supernatural angle, but I maintain that an entirely realistic solution at this stage would require the sort of anticlimactic revelations more akin to "Scooby Doo" (e.g. Discovering hidden speakers inside a tree, finding a man hidden in the bushes with a smoke-gun, catching whoever's been slipping the hallucinogens into the water supply etc).

oh good one Hordriss - so the 'force' on the island, whatever it is, might just be working randomly - with no real purpose, and no plan? its meant to show people the future, show them their problems, but whether those problems get resolved, or those futures are played out - thats either up to the losties themselves, or its a random result from the force??
need to have coffee......
